Choosing Lenses for LED Wall Washer Lights Based on Emitting Viewpoints

Often involved in outdoor lighting projects, but are you aware of how to select the emitting viewpoint for outdoor LED wall washer lights? Let Yueshen Lighting enlighten you: with a 90° lens, if the fixture shines directly onto a wall, the diameter of the light spot will be equal to the distance from the wall in meters. When the fixture illuminates the wall perpendicularly, draw a straight line from the fixture to the wall, bisecting the angle of illumination of the fixture. If the angle between the straight line and the fixture's illuminating wide viewpoint diagonal is 45°, it forms an isosceles right triangle with the light spot's radius on the wall, with the isosceles indicating the radius of the light spot and the distance between the fixture and the wall. Therefore, with a 90° lens, the radius of the light spot is equal to the distance between the fixture and the wall. If using a 120° lens, the radius of the light spot will be 1.732 times the distance between the fixture and the wall.

For different types of LED wall washer lights, there are also different considerations for selecting viewpoints. For direct-insert LED wall washer lights, they are generally controlled by a combination of modules and brackets. The deeper the bracket cup, the smaller the viewpoint. Modules also differ between focusing modules and wide-viewpoint modules. For example, a 5mm bullet head module will definitely have a smaller viewpoint than a 5mm straw hat head. Additionally, for the same module, the higher the card position, the smaller the viewpoint.

For power-type LED wall washer lights, these are generally determined by brackets, lenses, or reverse mold tools regarding the emitting viewpoint. The depth of the bracket cup determines the viewpoint, while lenses and reverse mold tools offer various viewpoints to choose from, such as 120°, 140°, or 160°. For patch-type LED wall washer lights, the viewpoint of patch LEDs is quite special and is generally determined by the bracket. The viewpoints of 3528 and 5050 vary and offer limited adjustment options. The viewpoint is fixed to what it is initially designed for, and control can be managed during the dispensing process.
